Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: The seminar will focus on ‘sex’ and ‘erotic’, two topics often discussed in Egyptological literature. Students will present a case study and will discuss the theoretical and methodological issues associated with a specific source. The topics for the seminars cover a wide range of ancient Egyptian sources (texts, iconography, material culture) and the main topics in which sex, erotic, and gender are discussed (religion, daily life, literature) by modern Egyptology. Students are further expected to engage with colleagues in each session. The semester will conclude with a critical view on modern Egyptological approaches to sex and erotic in ancient Egypt. Students are expected to give a presentation on one of the topics for which a full list will be provided at the beginning of the semester. The course will be taught in English.
