Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: The aim of this seminar is to provide the students a piece of general knowledge of divination in Ancient Mesopotamian and insights into dream omens and oneiromancy from I millennium BC. In the first part of the course, an overview of the different typologies of divination, their working principles and the ancient textual corpora related to them will be provided. The second part will be focused on reading selected extracts in cuneiform script from the so-called “Assyrian Dream-Book”. The students will read mainly from copies and photographs. According to the number of participants, the seminar can be combined with Mr Scarpelli’s seminar on meteorological divination.
