This seminar aims at discussing and exploring videogame cultures in Japan. It offers an introduction to game studies and to the history of videogames in Japan. Participants will review existing literature and establish a general sense of what videogame culture is in the context of contemporary culture, and how we might approach it. The seminar also aims to explore games analytically at play. Participants will develop individual research projects dealing with videogame content and develop feasible methods capable of producing answers to their questions. For the first class, we will meet in front of the entrance to "Campus Library" (Universitätsstr. 3, inside the lecture building "Hörsaalgebäude”).
