Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: This seminar experiments with museum methods. Museological interventions such as collecting, archiving, labelling, curating, displaying and exhibiting are approached as research methodologies and material knowledge practices. These have, in return, implications for ethnographic methods, arguably the key contribution anthropology has made across the human sciences, more broadly. What happens if we approach the ‘archive’ not only as a mechanism and structure of collecting, ordering and governing, but also as dynamic-contingent process and material-spatial activity, force field and heterotopian space, and living resource for creative interventions and utopian (re)imaginations? And what can be studied and enacted if ‘curation’ is understood in a broadened yet specific sense of attending to, or taking care of material environments? The course will be taught in English, and will offer different formats of participation. Students are encouraged to use the seminars to experiment with museum methods deriving from past and serving future field research.
