Offizielle Kursbeschreibung:
The module focuses on how scholars of anthropology communicate their ideas. It combines a reading class on different perceptions and dealings with “crisis” on various scales and the results of calling or not calling something a crisis (along the lines of themes presented in the lectures). It goes together with participation in the Lecture Series “Un/making global crises.” Each seminar session will start with a discussion about the last lecture to digest and discuss our learnings. Furthermore, we will prepare for the next lecture by reading the presenters’ and/or related texts before joining their presentation, to then engage in informed discussions with them.

Organisatorisches:
Compulsory Reading: Students read one or two preparatory texts for each session (see moodle)
Portfolio: Each participant to the seminar will select one session of the lecture series to interview the presenter and introduce them to the audience. This will also include chairing the discussion after the presentation. This task can be done in small groups of 2-3, and it includes writing response papers to the text we read, and to formulate questions.

Assignment:
Classical: Thesis/Essay of 5,000 words +/-500, at least 10 references, due date: Sep 30, 2024
OR
Creative/Artistic Response: This course grants space for producing a scholarly ‘output’ that speaks to a broader, non-academic audience. For instance, you may write a script for a podcast that deepens engagement with one of the seminar’s themes or organize visibility of the interviews and the lecture series on the institute’s website. Please note that all of these forms nevertheless require intense reading into a topic; however, the way you express or communicate your knowledge can differ from classical essay writing, due date: Sep 30, 2024
