Offizielle Kursbeschreibung:
Das Akkadische mit seinen Hauptdialekten Babylonisch und Assyrisch ist die älteste bezeugte semitische Sprache (ca. 2350 v. Chr. – 100 n. Chr.). Durch ihre weite geographische Verbreitung und ihren großen Umfang stellt sie die wichtigste Sprache des Alten Orients, d. h. Mesopotamiens und seiner Nachbargebiete, dar.
Die Übung vermittelt grundlegende Kenntnisse der Grammatik auf Basis der altbabylonischen Sprachstufe. Gleichzeitig wird in die Keilschrift eingeführt, eine komplexe, antike Wort-Silbenschrift. Parallel zur Einführung in die Schrift und Sprache werden akkadische Texte unterschiedlicher Gattungen in Übersetzung vorgestellt, um einen Überblick über das außerordentlich umfangreiche akkadische Schrifttum zu ermöglichen.
