Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: We are going to read Vijñanabhairava Tantra from the Kashmir Shaiva Tradition: Vijñanabhairava Tantra or Divine Consciousness, The Practice of Centering Awareness, A Treasury of 112 types of Yoga. (Vijñavabhairava – Das Göttliche Bewusstsein, 112 weisen der Mystischen Erfahrungen im Sivaismus von Kashmir). Vijñanabhairava is an ancient text on the practice of Saiva-yoga. It teaches 112 types of methods or approaches to practice concentration/awareness/contemplation based on the doctrines of the non-dualistic Saiva philosophy of Kashmir known as Kashmir Shaivism. There is hardly any book on yoga which has described so many methods of approach to the supreme Reality which is present in every being as the essential Self. These 112 methods of concentration called dhara?as/yuktis or ways of yoga or waveless advice (nistara?ga-upadesa) involve the body, mind, breath, the universe and all levels of consciousness from the most down-to-earth experience to the supreme level of awareness. In this class we are going to read and translate the text, exploring its background, the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism and its relevance in our life in the present days. We may use the translations in English of Jaidev Singh, Swami, Lakshman Joo and in German of Bettina Bäumer.
