Offizielle Kursbeschreibung: The late Ming period (16th & 17th centuries) was a period of profound social and cultural change, reflected in contemporary ideas of morality, social action, and religious cultivation. The class examines these social and cultural-historical phenomena with a focus on central figures (such as Yuan Huang, 1533–1606) and institutional innovations (such as the charitable societies, tongshanhui, of the 17th century).
